NIMBY
The Ears Have ItConcern for the safety of the Zoo animals has brought sanity to the City Park area in Denver, Colorado.
Anschutz Mile High Music Festival organizers and local politicians have been notified that the Denver City Zoo cannot endorse or support the Music Festival in City Park.
Councilman Linkhart:
ReplyDeleteOnce again, I'm grateful for your communication. Zoo Director Craig Piper has expressed remarkable integrity and courage in his decision.
While this is good news for those of us who opposed the festival from the beginning, the city still faces the larger issue of park usage. Some comments by other city officials seems to indicate that the city would be willing to do just about anything as long as there's enough profit to be made. This is, in my opinion, a very short-sighted and dangerous view.
Or, if the city is so desperate and decides the parks are more about generating revenue than providing PUBLIC amenities, then we can throw open the doors and let the profiteering begin. There is a multitude of ideas even more outrageous than a music festival.

Subject: City Park festival
Dear David,
Thank you for the information and letter you sent regarding the proposed music festival in City Park. You may have already heard, but today the AEG Live group has decided to look at another location for the festival. There were a number of concerns raised by community members like you, including the impact to the neighborhood, the park and the animals who reside at the zoo. The factors raised concern for Councilmembers as well, leaving the group to decide to look at alternative venues. We will continue to evaluate any proposal brought forward to make certain that the community is positively impacted by the event. I appreciate your comments and please feel free to contact me again anytime on this or other issues.
